We are always looking for ways to save money on the East Texas Homestead. With our friends knowing this, the other day a friend of mine let me know about an opportunity to get some free lumber. I couldn’t pass this up.
He was going to be reconstructing a hot tub deck and needed the original deck removed. The wood of the original deck was in great condition. However, the homeowners simply didn’t like the way their original contractors built it.
The deal was if I would take it apart and haul everything away, I could keep any of the good limber.
As it turned out I received over $400 worth of pressure treated 2x4s. It took me all morning on Saturday to take the deck apart and haul it to our homestead and another several hours to clean up the wood.
Be on the lookout for opportunities like this. You can find them on local Facebook swap-n-shop pages as well as craigslest.com. In addition to these, don’t let your pride get in the way of “scavenging” for some great stuff. Let your friends and family know to be on the lookout for you.
