Simply put, a comfrey poultice is moist ground up comfrey (usually leaves but sometimes root as well) applied to a wound and covered with a cloth. This natural healing method has been used for a very long time and is not limited to comfrey.

For thousands of years, comfrey has been used as an herbal medicine for sprains, burns, breaks, and more. One of its folk names is knitbone because it has been used to speed up the time in which it takes to heal a broken bone. One of the best ways to use comfrey externally is in a poultice.

Making a comfrey poultice is extremely easy and you don’t need any special tools. However, I’m going to show you how to make a simple healing comfrey poultice using a blender.

  1. Great site thanks for the info. I am in Canada and I am a master herbalist. I have growing comfrey for 20 yrs. I just started selling it across canada. wonderful plant. I use it on my dogs kids animals and self. We are located just outside of Toronto, Ontario
    I have access to common comfrey as well as bocking 14 I will not plant the common on my farm , I would not be able to tell the difference in the spring as to which kind I am working with. If you have a small yard I would not recommend common as it seeds it self and your neighbours would not like you. Have a great growing summer from Canada
