Why the EG4 6000XP Is on the Homestead
I run three EG4 6000XP inverters on my homestead, and they power everything I need. When I was designing my off-grid system, I wanted an all-in-one solution that could handle 120/240V split-phase output without needing a separate transformer. The EG4 6000XP delivers exactly that – 6000W of continuous power from a single unit, with the ability to parallel up to 16 inverters if I ever need to expand. These inverters live at the heart of my electrical system, converting battery power into clean, stable AC electricity for my home.

What Is the EG4 6000XP Inverter?
The EG4 6000XP is a 48V off-grid inverter/charger with built-in MPPT solar charge controllers. It combines three critical functions into one unit: a 6000W pure sine wave inverter, a 125A battery charger, and dual 4000W MPPT trackers for solar input. The transformerless high-frequency design produces 120/240V split-phase output from a single inverter, which is essential for running appliances like dryers, well pumps, and HVAC systems that need 240V. With 99% MPPT efficiency and the ability to accept up to 480V DC solar input, it handles large solar arrays efficiently.
- Output Power: 6000W continuous (120/240V split-phase)
- Solar Input: 8000W recommended (4000W per MPPT)
- MPPT Voltage Range: 100-480V DC
- Battery Voltage: 48V nominal
- Max Charge Current: 125A from solar, 115A from AC
- Surge Capacity: 12kW for 3.5 seconds
- Warranty: 5 years
Key Features and How I Use It
On my homestead, each EG4 6000XP handles a dedicated load center. I have three units working together to power different zones – one for the main house, one for the workshop, and one for outbuildings. The built-in switchgear simplifies installation by eliminating the need for external transfer switches. The generator port accepts a 7kW generator directly, so I can charge batteries or supplement power during extended cloudy weather without any additional wiring. Wi-Fi connectivity lets me monitor production and consumption from my phone, and the closed-loop communication with EG4 batteries ensures optimal charging profiles.
One thing I really appreciate: the EG4 6000XP handles high-voltage solar strings up to 480V DC. This means I can run longer strings with fewer wires, reducing voltage drop and installation complexity. The dual MPPT trackers let me orient arrays in different directions – I have one MPPT feeding south-facing panels and the other feeding west-facing panels, maximizing production throughout the day.

Installation Tips
- Mount vertically on a wall with at least 12 inches of clearance above and below for ventilation
- Use proper torque on all terminal connections: 60 in-lb for EG4 inverter terminals
- For split-phase output, connect L1, L2, and Neutral to your main panel
- Set DIP switches for split-phase mode before powering on
- Configure battery type to LiFePO4 and set charging voltage to match your battery specs (56.2V for EG4 batteries)
- Connect RS485 or CAN communication cables for closed-loop operation with EG4 batteries
- When installing multiple units in parallel, use the parallel communication cable and configure master/slave addressing
- Route high-voltage DC solar wiring through proper DC-rated disconnects and fuses
- Install a surge protector on the AC output side for lightning protection
