Homemade Laundry Detergent for Sensitive Skin
My husband and boys have extremely sensitive skin. They will break out from anything, a rough tag on the back of their shirt to fabric that makes them sweat and itchy which then causes red splotches and hives. My family can’t do most laundry detergents. We have been using ECOS Free and Clear Laundry Detergent which they have not seemed to react to. It gets expensive though, especially since I wash cloth diapers every other day.
So I set out to make my own laundry detergent that saves us money and my family’s sensitive skin can tolerate! This recipe is super easy and only requires 3 ingredients.
Here’s What You Need to Make Homemade Laundry Detergent:
I’ve found that Amazon.com is a good place to buy these products. The links above will take you to the products I purchased. If you can find them for less locally than buy there for sure.
Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe:
All you need to do is mix the following ingredients in a large bowl until well blended. It couldn’t be any simpler.
- 1 cup Oxyclean
- 2 cups washing soda
- 2 cups borax
Now you have a simple, allergy friendly laundry detergent! This recipe makes 5 cups of detergent which is about 15 loads of laundry. I use 1/3 cup for a normal load. Feel free to double or even triple this recipe. It all depends on the size of the container you will be keeping the detergent in. You can also add essential oil such as lavender if you want a scented detergent.
Let me know if you like this recipe or have one of your own you’d like to share!
